Ottoneu's Most Wanted - Week 12's Top Adds

Ottoneu

Every Monday this season I’ll take a look at the players most added to Ottoneu rosters over the last week to see what I can glean from the hivemind of the community.

Ross Stripling

One-time all-star seems to be rounding into form again. Has been a different pitcher since giving up 3 HR in 3.2 IP vs. BOS May 19. Has tinkered with his pitch mix all season, but success has come since settling on FB around 55% and SL/CB/CH each around 15%.

Patrick Sandoval

John dug into him in last week’s Picking Up Change article, go read it. If you add him, I’d be careful of his next start. The one thing BAL does well is hit lefties (3rd in wOBA vs. L).

Abraham Toro

Adds seem to be in response to Alex Bregman hitting the IL. Has been very good in the upper MiLB and Astros seem to know how to develop hitters so they always draw my attention, but this is his third call up and he’s yet to do much with it. Watchlist.

Taylor Ward

The main draw here is he’s playing every day, has been in every lineup since June 8. Had a 9 game hit streak end June 19. Seems to have power (27 HR in 106 AAA games in 2019). He offers OF depth if you’re short on games played.

Jimmy Nelson

Has really become a force in the LAD bullpen. Has not given up a HR and gave up an ER the other night for the first time in 2 months. Has pared down his arsenal in the bullpen and FB/CB/SL have all been very good. Points league add for sure.

Nick Sandlin

Another interesting points league RP option on a team that seems to know how to get the best out of its pitchers. Has also not allowed a HR and has given up 1 barrel to Nelson’s 2. SL/4Seam are great. A bit more available than Nelson, but I would really be happy with either.

Sam Long

I put him on my watchlist last week and he’ll remain there this week after a 5 IP, 4 ER outing at home vs. OAK. @ARI next, who are actually decent against lefties (11th in wOBA vs. L). Wait and see.

Collin McHugh

Has been beastly this month in a multi-inning reliever role: 14.1 IP, 40% K-BB%. Gave up a HR in his 1st appearance of the year, hasn’t give one up since and just 2 barrels allowed all season. SL/CT/4S/CU all working. I’m thinking he’s a sneaky buy in that maybe the Rays move him into the rotation later in the season.

Kolby Allard

Many may have forgotten about him, but he’s still only 23 years old. Seems he’s had a pitch mix change since moving into the rotation, throwing fewer 4-seamers and more change ups and curves and it’s working decently well. Probably most interesting to a rebuilding points team.

Steven Duggar

Has been great in limited action, 12 hits and 8 walks in his last 10 games, but he’s an old “prospect” for a reason and did very little with 3 previous stints in the majors. He’s not playing everyday and this level of production won’t last, so tread lightly.

I’ve started analyzing some of the top cuts as well. I’m going to be more selective with these players as many are on the list for obvious reasons, mostly injury related. This week, there’s no one that caught my attention that I haven’t already highlighted in previous posts, but here’s the list anyway.
