Ottoneu's Most Wanted - Week 8's Top Adds

Every Monday this season I’ll take a look at the players most added to Ottoneu rosters over the last week to see what I can glean from the hivemind of the community.

Ottoneu Top Adds Week 8

Ottoneu Top Adds Week 8
Danny Santana BOS 1B/2B/SS/3B/OF 52.93%
James Kaprielian OAK SP/RP 36.26%
Daniel Hudson WSN RP 27.20%
Taylor Walls TBR SS 26.60%
Garrett Cooper MIA 1B/OF 20.76%
Brad Miller PHI 1B/2B/3B/OF 19.88%
Brandon Crawford SFG SS 17.25%
Rich Hill TBR SP 16.67%
Mike Zunino TBR C 16.38%
DeMarcus Evans TEX RP 15.78%

Danny Santana

His positional flexibility alone makes him valuable, considering the number of injuries this season. Has raked (12 hits, 4 homers, 5 walks) in 11 games between MLB and AAA since recovering from a foot infection. Worth an add to see if he can return to his 2019 form.

James Kaprielian

3 great starts so far, but has been insanely lucky (.186 BABIP, 98.5% LOB). An old prospect, but with little experience (423.2 IP across NCAA, MiLB, MLB). Sort of a wildcard, but I’m also sort of interested (9.9 K/9, 2.9 BB/9, 0.6 HR/9 across all levels). Watchlist for me.

Daniel Hudson

Has leaned heavily into his 4-seam fastball the last 2 seasons (76.4% usage) which has surprisingly led to his K% skyrocketing (32.1%). Quite a bit of luck, like Kaprielian (.179 BABIP, 83.3% LOB), but the strikeout rate makes him viable in all league types, just spend wisely.

Taylor Walls

After appearing on last week’s list, he was added even more this week, and I still don’t get it. Not only is his profile pretty underwhelming, but he’s also on the Rays which means he’s not going to play everyday. Still passing.

Garrett Cooper

Homered in 3 straight games and has been on base 11 times in 6 games since. He’s a good hitter who struggles to stay on the field because of his defense, but Adam Duvall has missed 3 games in a row and could be headed to the disabled list. If so, pick up Cooper if you need OF depth.

Brad Miller

To my surprise, this journeyman veteran has found something. Since June 16, 2019 has an .868 OPS, .366 wOBA, 130 wRC+. And he’s eligible at 4 positions. He’s basically doing what the Phillies wished Scott Kingery would do. Think I like him more than Santana, if you’re buying.

Brandon Crawford

Last week’s top add returns. Has been league average over the last 10 games (.306 wOBA, 97 wRC+). On base 11 times in that time, but also struck out 10 times. So he may have finally cooled off, but THE BAT still predicts him for 15 more HRs. If you added him, I’d hold for now.

Rich Hill

Continues to impress after appearing on last week’s list. Season high in innings pitched (8) and strikeouts (13) In his most recent start. He has just been so injury prone that it’s still hard for me to recommend investing heavily, but you should definitely add him on the cheap if you can.

Mike Zunino

Has 24 hits, 12 of them are homers. His Barrel% is off the charts right now (28.6%) and as a result his HR/FB rate (34.3%) is, too. While he’s always had power, this just isn’t sustainable. His contact rate is at a career low (61.5%). But he’s a catcher so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Demarcus Evans

A bullpen prospect (is that a thing?) that was recently called up by the Rangers. Electric stuff, but also lacks control (13.9 K/9 and 5.5 BB/9 in MiLB). With this many adds it seems many believe he could be a future closer. I’m not rushing out to get him, but worth monitoring in case Ian Kennedy gets traded.

Ottoneu Top Cuts Week 8

I’ve started analyzing some of the top cuts as well. I’m going to be more selective with these players as many are on the list for obvious reasons, mostly injury related.

Ottoneu Top Cuts Week 8
Marcell Ozuna ATL 10IL OF -36.25%
Harrison Bader STL 10IL OF -17.55%
Aaron Hicks NYY 60IL OF -16.96%
Corey Kluber NYY 10IL SP -14.32%
Nick Senzel CIN 10IL 2B/OF -11.99%
David Dahl TEX 10IL OF -10.53%
Wilson Ramos DET 10IL C -10.23%
Daulton Varsho ARI (AAA) C/OF -9.65%
Cole Irvin OAK SP/RP -9.36%
Mike Mayers LAA RP -8.78%

Nick Senzel

Former top prospect who has been dogged by a ton of injuries. He’s out 4-6 weeks after knee surgery. Had a lot of hype preseason and so his price is a little high. I would watchlist him and if his original manager adds and cuts him again in a month, which would lower his price, I’d think about picking him up.
